Wood Deck Builder & Deck Repair in North Atlanta
Classic pressure-treated wood decks, stairs and railings, plus honest repair work when a rebuild isn't needed. Built right, so the wood lasts.
Wood Decks and Steps, built by one local crew
Not every deck needs to be composite. A well-built pressure-treated wood deck is the most affordable way to get outside, and with sealing every few years it looks good for a long time. Sands Construction Group has built wood decks, stairs and railings across North Atlanta since 2008, and our Thumbtack reviews started with deck repair.
We also fix decks. If your deck has soft boards, a wobbly railing or stairs that have pulled away, we will tell you whether it is a repair, a resurfacing or a rebuild, and we will not sell you a new deck you don't need.

How we build it
Lumber and hardware
Ground-contact rated pressure-treated lumber where it touches the ground, hot-dipped galvanized or stainless hardware, and joist tape or flashing where water collects. These are the details that decide whether a wood deck lasts ten years or twenty-five.
Footings and ledger
Footings below frost line and sized for the load, and a ledger that is flashed and bolted to the house. A nailed-on ledger is the most common cause of deck failures we see, and we never build one.
Stairs and railing
Stair rise and run, railing height and baluster spacing are all code items. We build them to pass inspection and to feel solid underfoot.
Repair vs. rebuild
On repair calls we check the ledger, the footings, the joists and the railing posts. If the structure is sound we repair or resurface; if it isn't, we show you why and quote a rebuild.
Wood Decks and Steps questions
Keep it clean, keep leaves and planters from holding water on the boards, and seal or stain it every few years. Let new pressure-treated lumber dry before the first coat; we'll tell you when.
Often, yes. Soft boards, loose railing and failing stairs are usually repairs. A rotted ledger, sunken footings or joists that have gone soft usually mean a rebuild. We check all of it at the estimate and give you a straight answer.
Replacing boards or fixing a railing on a low deck generally doesn't. Structural work, such as replacing joists, a ledger or footings, usually does, and Forsyth County in particular treats structural repair like a new deck. We check your county and pull the permit when it's required.
Wood costs less to build and needs sealing or staining to stay looking good. Composite costs more and needs almost nothing. If you plan to stay in the house a long time and don't want the upkeep, see our composite decks page.
