Front Porches, Pavilions & Pergolas in North Atlanta
The porch is the first thing people see. We build covered front porches, wraparound porches, backyard pavilions and cedar pergolas that add shade and curb appeal.
Front Porches and Pavilions, built by one local crew
A covered front porch changes how a house reads from the street, and a backyard pavilion gives you shade without walls. Sands Construction Group builds both across North Atlanta: farmhouse-style front porches with columns and a gable, wraparound porches on cabins and lake houses, freestanding pavilions over patios and outdoor kitchens, and cedar pergolas on decks.
Front porches and pavilions are roof structures, which means footings, beams and connections sized for the span and for wind, and a permit in every county we serve. We design them to match the house, not to look added on.
What we build

- Wraparound porches on cabins, farmhouses and lake homes

How we build it
Design to the house
Roof pitch, column style and trim are matched to the existing house so the porch looks original. We'll bring photos of comparable porches to the estimate.
Footings and posts
Columns sit on footings sized for the roof, with connections rated for uplift. On a pavilion, posts are set for the full span so you get open space underneath.
Roof and ceiling
Framed, flashed and shingled to match. Ceilings in tongue-and-groove, beadboard or painted finish, with lights and fans wired during the build.
Permits and HOA
A roofed porch or pavilion needs a building permit and often HOA approval; a pergola may or may not, depending on the city. We check and handle it.
Front Porches and Pavilions questions
A pergola has an open slatted top: filtered shade, no rain cover, lighter structure. A pavilion has a solid roof: full shade and rain cover, and it can carry fans and lights. If you want to use the space in a thunderstorm, you want a pavilion.
Yes. A covered front porch is an addition in every county and city we serve, and it changes the front setback, so it needs a permit and drawings. We prepare and submit them.
That's the whole job. We match roof pitch, trim profiles, column style and paint so the porch looks like it was always there.
