Outdoor Fireplaces for Porches & Decks in North Atlanta
A stone fireplace on the porch turns October and March into porch season. We build wood-burning and gas fireplaces into new and existing outdoor rooms.
Fireplaces, built by one local crew
The best outdoor rooms in North Atlanta have a fireplace. It gives the porch a focal wall, a place to hang the TV, and warmth on the forty-degree nights that would otherwise keep you inside. Sands Construction Group builds outdoor fireplaces as part of our porches, screen rooms and pool decks, from full-height stone chimneys to sleek linear gas units.
Fireplaces are structural and code-sensitive work: they need their own footing, proper clearances to the framing, venting that meets the manufacturer's spec, and a licensed gas line if they burn gas. That is why we build them as part of the porch rather than bolting one on afterwards.

How we build it
Footing and structure
A masonry fireplace weighs more than the rest of the porch combined, so it gets its own footing. We plan it with the porch so the framing, roof opening and chimney line up.
Firebox and venting
Wood-burning units use a rated firebox and chimney; gas units use a sealed firebox with venting per the manufacturer's spec. Clearances to wood framing are code items the inspector checks, and we build to them.
Stone and finish
Natural stone, manufactured stone veneer, or a clean stucco finish, with a hearth and mantel to match your porch ceiling and railings.
Permits
The fireplace is part of the porch or deck permit, and a gas fireplace adds a gas permit pulled by our licensed plumber. We coordinate all of it.
Fireplaces questions
Wood gives you the real fire, the smell and the crackle, and needs a chimney and a place to keep wood. Gas lights with a switch, burns clean, and fits a linear design with a TV above. Most of our porch fireplaces today are gas; most of our pool-deck fireplaces are stone and wood-burning. We'll show you both.
Sometimes. The porch needs a footing where the fireplace will sit and enough clearance to the roof framing. We'll look at it at the estimate and tell you honestly whether it's an add-on or a rebuild.
Yes. It's inspected as part of the porch or deck permit, and a gas unit needs a gas permit as well. We handle both.
